Parallel vs Series battery connections #
Before we get started this only pertains in multiple battery connection setup, if you have a single battery in your RV, then doesn’t pertain to you unless you are planning on putting in multiple batteries, then continue reading. Keep in mind multiple batteries need to be the same size, voltage, age and amp-hour capacity. DO NOT try to mix old and new, different capacities when doing series or parallel hookups. Keep in mind you want to get to 12 volts when hooking up batteries.
Series #
In a series connection, the same type, voltage batteries are hooked up to increase the voltage of the entire setup. You can take two 6-volt batteries, hook up in series to get 12 volts to power your RV. Look at the picture below, battery on the left the negative pole and connect to positive pole on the battery on the right. The positive pole on the left battery is hooked up to the RV and the negative pole on the battery on the right is hooked up to the RV. This setup gives you 12 volts, most used are golf cart batteries for this kind of setup.
Parallel #
In a parallel connection, same type, voltage batteries are hooked up to increase the amperage (or overall length of power) to run things. You can take two 12-volt batteries, hook up in parallel to get 12 volts to power your RV. Look at the picture below, battery on the left the negative pole is connected to the negative pole of the battery on the right and the negative pole on the battery on the right is connect to the RV. The positive pole on the battery on the left is connected to the RV and connected to the positive pole on the battery on the right.
